"Master the topic, the message, and the delivery."

Steve Jobs

In our last post, we took on the what small businesses identified as their 5 Biggest Marketing Challenges. We wanted to expand upon that post and offer a little more insight in regards to the aforementioned survey. This time we are focusing on how businesses are marketing themselves and which channels these businesses have identified as their biggest opportunities for gaining new customers.

The 10 Biggest Marketing Channels

  1. Social Media Marketing
  2. Email Marketing
  3. Online Paid Advertisments
  4. Event Marketing
  5. Video Marketing
  6. Content Marketing
  7. Influencer Marketing
  8. Podcast Marketing
  9. Video Streaming
  10. Print Advertising

The problems

Identifying that there is opportunity on these channels is easily seen, but those surveyed mentioned that they are struggling with:

  • understanding how to tackle these channels
  • deciding which social media platforms to use
  • figuring out how to set up email and drip campaigns
  • setting up digital paid media properly
  • reviewing analytics, tracking and other insights.

You know the old saying, “look before you leap”? Well, now more than ever, it’s very easy to dive headfirst into these new exciting marketing channels — especially those that promise you the world — but without the proper strategy, setup and tracking, an effective channel for lead generation will become a missed opportunity.

At Octothorp, we know that great marketing gets people interested.  We know that in order to properly generate leads and boost conversion rates, businesses need to strategize. In order to set up the complex systems to attract and introduce potential customers into their environments and, then, capture their information in order to open a dialogue with them, that will convert them into a client or customer.

Which marketing platform has been your greatest success for reaching new customers?
